Eco-comfort technology makes these systems smarter in how they use energy and minimizes their impact on the environment. Plus there are many advanced features like the i-see™ Sensor, that automatically detects room temperature differences and adjusts for greater comfort. Mitsubishi Electric's advanced multi-stage filtration systems dramatically reduce allergens and help eliminate odors. And our indoor units operate with sound levels starting as low as 19dB(A). That sound is even quieter than a human whisper.

Need Help? Which Type of System Are You Looking For?

Ductless air conditioners and ductless heat pumps are convenient, efficient choices for homeowners and commercial facility managers who are looking for an alternative to traditional ducted HVAC systems. Since ductless systems do not require a network of ducts for air distribution, they are good choices for new construction or remodeling projects in which available space is limited. They can also be good additions to existing HVAC systems for individual who want to create a zoned heating and cooling system in their home or business.

Whether you're installing a Mitsubishi Electric air conditioner, a Mitsubishi Electric heat pump, or a Mitsubishi Electric heater, you'll find that the systems consist of two separate elements. The first major element is an outdoor unit that contains the main operating components of the system, such as compressors, condenser and power systems. The second component consists of several individual indoor units that are used for air handling and distribution.

The Usual Configuration

In the most common configurations, the outdoor unit is placed outside of your home near an exterior wall. The outdoor unit, which is about the same size as that found in standard ducted heat pump or HVAC systems, provides most of the system operation.

The indoor units are connected to the outdoor unit through a conduit placed through the wall of your home or business facility. The conduit requires a relatively small hole for installation, usually about 3 inches in diameter. Within the conduit are the power cables, refrigerant lines and the condenser drain that keeps the indoor units working.

Types of indoor units

  • Wall-mounted: Wall-mounted indoor units are fastened to the wall of the room where they're being used, usually near the ceiling. Some wall-mounted units look like small fans, while others more closely resemble rectangular radiator units.
  • Ceiling-mounted: Ceiling-mounted indoor units are usually placed in a recessed area in the ceiling, with the external surface of the unit flush with the ceiling's surface.
  • Floor-mounted: Floor-mounted indoor units are usually larger than wall- or ceiling-mounted units and resemble a large square indoor radiator unit.

Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners and other systems usually have indoor units with additional features such as internal self-checks and diagnostics, an increased fan speed mode, and the option for wired or wireless controllers.

Usefulness of indoor units

  • Ease of installation: Mitsubishi Electric ductless heat pump installation is much easier than installing a regular ducted system. The same is true of Mitsubishi Electric ductless air conditioning installation. There is no need to plan, design and install a bulky duct network. Indoor units can be placed almost anywhere you want them, limited only by the length of the connections to the outdoor unit. If you need to move an indoor unit to a different location, it can be done relatively easily without concern for reconfiguring ductwork or making other complicated and potentially expensive changes to your building's structure.
  • Zoning capabilities: The flexibility of placement of indoor units of Mitsubishi Electric ductless air conditioners, heat pumps and heaters makes them especially suitable for indoor zoning, the creation of individual zones or areas that receive more or less conditioned air that other areas. Most systems allow individual control of four or more indoor units. The Mitsubishi Electric M-Series multi-zone systems provide control for as many as eight indoor units. You can place as many indoor units in a zone as you need for the desired level of heating or cooling.
  • Indoor units can be operated independently of each other: Indoor units have their own thermostats, allowing for individual temperature control to the preferences of occupants of the rooms or areas within the zone.

Applications of indoor units

Indoor units are very effective at heating and cooling areas such as individual rooms or zones of smaller size. They can be used in applications in offices, retail stores, classrooms, child-care facilities, waiting rooms, dining areas, churches, attendant booths, guardhouses and similar areas.
